Richard Arnst (1883 - 1953) was a professional sculler from New Zealand (not Australia as indicated in the description). He won the professional World Championship six times (1908, 1909, twice 1910, 1911 and 1921). The photo refers to the year 1912 when he lost his title in a race against Ernest Barry (GBR) on the Thames (Putney to Mortlake). |
