M. Wood was the single sculls Olympic champion 1948. At the olympic Games Helsinki 1952 he won the M1X silver medal. Together with his partner M. Riley he won the M2X bronze medal at the Melbourne Games 1956. He also was the Diamond Challange Sculls (= M1X) winner at Henley Royal Regatta in 1948 and 1952.
