This stamp was withdrawn from sale on
March 11th, 1980 due to the U.S. boycott
of the Olympic Games 1980 at Moscow.
It was re-released on Aug. 4th, 1980 "to
honour the fine men and women of the
U.S. Olympic team who had sacrificed months
and years of training" (Quotation of post-
master General William F. Bolger)

The inscription "IX. World Rowing Championships" is incorrect.
The first WRC were held at Lucerne 1962, followed by Bled 1966,
St. Catherines 1970, Lucerne 1974, Nottingham 1975,
Amsterdam 1977 and Lake Karapiro 1978.
Bled 1979 hosted the 8th Men's WRC.
