The name of this painting on the back is incorrect: it should read "Molesey"
instead of "Henley". Molesey Regatta is still held annually in July on the river
Thames (race distance 850 m downstream).

United States. It was founded
in 1954, and its headquarters
are at Princeton, New Jersey.

The Detroit Boat Club was founded in 1839.
It is the oldest rowing club in the U.S.A. and
the second oldest continuosly operating rowing
club in the world. During the first 60 years of
its history the club built three wooden boat-
houses which all burnt to the ground. The
image shows the fourth boathouse which has
withstood fire till today.
The New London Boat Race
or Yale-Harvard Boat Race is
an annual contest between M8+
crews of Harvard University
and Yale University. First rowed
in 1852, it is America's oldest
athletic competition.
The coloured drawing shows
an incident during the 1890
race when the Yale stroke
broke his oar and dove over-
board. Yale still won the race.
Tonia Williams was born in NZL and competed
in NZL crews and later on in GBR lightweight
crews. She stroked the GBR LW4- for three
consecutive years (1992-1994) winning one
gold and two silver medals at the corresponding
WRCs. Her victory at the WRC Racice 1993
was British Rowing's first ever sweep-oar gold
medal for women.
